    Henry B. Meisel, born on November 3, 1930 in Vienna, Austria, discusses his father’s need to leave Austria after Kristallnacht because of his Polish background; leaving Austria in December 1938; arriving in Shanghai, China in January 1939; his childhood impressions of the ship; conditions, education, and religious schooling in Hongkew; the Japanese occupation; his post-war experiences in Shanghai; immigrating to Israel in 1949; serving for two years in the army; and immigrating to the United States in 1953.
